Construction Management Certificate

This program provides the necessary training and skills to become a construction manager. The coursework is designed for engineers, contractors, designers and others in the construction industry. The required courses cover the fundamentals of construction management including construction cost and estimating, planning and management of construction projects, and legal issues and contracts. Following the required courses, participants may select from a broad list of electives designed to complement participants' background and skills.

Objectives
This program provides the skills and training to:

  • Effectively manage projects, schedules, staff and budgets
  • Estimate and control costs and minimize change orders
  • Supervise the job site
  • Manage work with subcontractors, clients, suppliers, architects, government agencies and others
  • Develop strategies to manage workflow and quality
  • Understand legal requirements and minimize exposure to lawsuits
  • Manage and minimize risk and insurance costs
  • Understand and effectively manage contracts
  • Navigate accounting requirements and cash flow
  • Perform negotiations and use conflict resolution strategies and methods

Who Can Benefit
Professionals who directly or indirectly supervise construction projects, staff and/or clients. Also, the program is well suited for city planning staff, subcontractors, developers, land planners, investors and individuals who have interests in real estate and development.
