Human Resources Management Certificate
The Human Resources Certificate has long been one of
UCR Extension's most popular programs. Since its inception,
the program has offered participants an opportunity to develop an in-depth
awareness of critical human resources management principles, policies
and practices.
The program is designed to provide participants a thorough understanding
of human resources management concepts and their practical application
in the development of policies and programs. Laws and legal issues
relevant to the management of a human resources function are also
emphasized. Through electives, participants are able to focus on specific
aspects of human resources management that may be of particular
interest to their professional or company environment.
Objectives
Participants examine the core principles of human resources management
including hiring, recruitment, compensation, supervision and retention
of staff. Additional topics including employee benefit administration,
insurance and risk management, human resources law, labor relations
and workers' compensation are also examined to provide individuals
with a well-rounded exposure to the common issues facing today's
employer. Special projects, case studies, individual and group projects,
as well as role-playing opportunities throughout the program provide
participants with a wealth of knowledge related to specific interests,
goals and objectives.
Who Can Benefit
The program is designed for human resources managers, lead supervisors,
operations managers, staffing agencies, consultants and others who
commonly work with staff in union or non-union environments. While
the program is ideally suited for individuals who may already have
human resources-related responsibilities (e.g. recruiting, hiring,
supervising and/or working with personnel policies), the coursework
also provides an avenue for other professionals and participants to
familiarize themselves with these practices in order to better prepare
them for management-level positions. Throughout the program individuals
have valuable opportunities to develop specialized skills that will
help them in their current or future endeavors.
