Advanced School Counseling: Interpersonal and Proactive Skills Certificate

The Certificate in Advanced School Counseling: Interpersonal and Proactive Skills for School Counselors has evolved from the need for quality professional development for practicing school counselors. This certificate provides the opportunity for counselors to remain current in counselor education and enhance their personal counseling skills.

Coursework in the certificate emphasizes the development of skills, knowledge and attitudes to help all students in the areas of academic, career and personal/social development, and examines current counselor education trends and philosophies. The certificate program includes 12 units of core courses and 8 units of emphasis courses.

The Certificate in Interpersonal and Proactive Skills for School Counselors provides coursework in developing interpersonal and proactive skills to promote success for all students. The integration of the National Standards and the National Model for School Counseling programs is embedded into the program. The certificate program allows counselors to focus on identifying student needs and determining the most appropriate program services to meet those needs.

The program includes emphasis in specific content areas that provide school counselors the knowledge and resources to focus on the development of interpersonal skills or on proactive skills used as part of the delivery system in their school counseling program.
