Adult Education Credential
CCTC-APPROVED
UCR Extension, in collaboration with the UCR Graduate School of Education, offers an California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) approved credential program leading to the Designated Subjects Adult Education credential.
General Information
Applicants must choose between a part-time or a full-time credential. If minimum qualifications are met, students are initially issued a Preliminary Credential and have five years to complete requirements for the credential. Level One courses must be completed within the first two years of the Preliminary Credential period. Requirements for the clear credential include specified coursework and teaching experience completed within the five-year validity period of the Preliminary Credential. All full-time credential holders are required to meet the U.S. Constitution requirement.
Adult Education Credential
This credential authorizes the holder to teach the subjects named on the credential in courses organized primarily for adults. The required orientation course, Edu. 810, outlining admission and program requirements, is offered at the beginning of every quarter. Adult Education credentials may list academic or nonacademic subjects.
Adult Education credentials with academic subjects authorize the holder to teach the following academic subjects (candidates must meet the listed requirements for each subject requested). All preliminary academic subject credential candidates must meet the following two requirements in addition to the requirements for each subject:
- Possess a bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited university
- Verify passage of a CTC-approved basic skills proficiency exam
