Academic-Year Certificate Programs

GEOSPATIAL TECHNOLOGY

Geospatial technologies extend our reach and our ability to use complex information by simplifying those complexities via geospatial models and visual representation.
The Certificate in Geospatial Technology prepares participants to capture, manage, analyze and visualize geospatial data. The Certificate provides an introduction to the science and applications in geographic information systems (GIS), cartographic design, the global positioning system (GPS) and remote sensing/geo-imaging through extensive hands-on laboratory and field activities. Our curriculum is award-winning and recognized globally.
Recommended prerequisite: Basic knowledge of linear algebra.

Academic-Yer Certificate Programs

CURRICULUM – 3 Quarter Sessions

Fall Quarter (September-December)
Required Courses:
•  Introduction to ArcGIS
•  Practical Approaches to Implementing GIS
•  Principles of GPS Technology
•  GIS Database Design

Electives (select two):
•  GIS Data Resources
•  GPS Leveling
•  Online GIS Technology Classes

Winter Quarter (January-April)
Required Courses:
•  Working with Spatial Analyst
•  GPS Techniques: RTK, CORS, DGPS
•  GIS Data Capture Using GPS
•  Fundamentals of Geodesy

Electives (select two):
•  GIS in Land Use Planning
•  GIS in Natural Resources
•  Online GIS Technology Classes

Spring Quarter (April-June)
Required Courses:
•  Cartographic Design
•  GIS Project Management
•  Introduction to Spatial Analysis
•  Remote Sensing

Electives (select two):
•  Map Projections
•  Introduction to Photogrammetry
•  GPS Processing and Analysis
•  Online GIS Technology Classes

Length:  36-week. 3 x 12-week session.

Average class size: 14
When is it offered? September to June
Required proficiency: minimum TOEFL® score of 523 (paper)/193 (computer), TOEIC® score of 700 or above, TSE® score of 45 or above and be at the 600 level of UC Riverside Extension’s Intensive English Program or equivalent.
Minimum Age:  15
Tuition
The tuition for the entire 36-week (about nine months) program is (please see Dates & Fees page) .
Application Deadline
Application deadline is one month before the starting date of the program.
Optional Practical Training
Upon completion of an Academic-year Certificate Program, you may be eligible for up to a year of Optional Practical Training (OPT) at an American company.
