Academic-Year Certificate Programs (AYCP)

Academic-year Certificate Programs are planned, sequential programs of study in particular fields of knowledge that have met the standards of academic approval set by the Academic Senate at UC Riverside.

Academic-year Certificate Programs:
• Are planned by advisory committees of distinguished professionals and academics
• Have instructors chosen from the ranks of experienced, well-educated professionals who have made significant contributions to their fields
• Provide up-to-date information you can use on your current or future job
• Help you to develop a working knowledge of the day-to-day components of a profession
• Provide an opportunity to meet and network with professional people with similar interests.

Duration
The Academic-year Certificate Programs have been developed to be completed within a 36-week study period, from September to June. The programs are divided into three sequential quarter (12-week) sessions:

Classes are held in the evenings at the UC Riverside Extension Center.

Certificate Requirements
Each Academic-year Certificate Program includes a series of courses. Some courses are required (mandatory) while others are electives. Each course has a corresponding number of units. The number of units per course varies.
UC Riverside Extension certificates are awarded upon the successful completion of a minimum number of total units, including both required and elective units. The minimum number of total units varies according to each certificate program.
International participants must take a minimum of 12 units (to satisfy their student visa status requirements) but no more than 16 units per quarter.

Language Requirements
Participants must have a minimum TOEFL® score of 523 (paper)/193 (computer), TOEIC® score of 700 or above, TSE® score of 45 or above and be at the 600 level of UC Riverside Extension’s Intensive English Program or equivalent.

Application Deadline
Application deadline is one month before the starting date of the program.

Optional Practical Training
Upon completion of an Academic-year Certificate Program, you may be eligible for up to a year of Optional Practical Training (OPT) at an American company.
