Become an Instructor
Dear Prospective Instructor:
UCR Extension enrolls approximately 30,000 students each year, but despite its large size, pride is taken in the individual attention given to students and the institution's dedication to serving the community's changing needs. We recognize that one of the most important factors in delivering this individual attention and responsiveness is hiring the right instructors.
UCR Extension instructors are working professionals, noted specialists and experts in the fields they are teaching, with advanced and specialized experience and education in specific subjects, enabling students to take what they learn in the classroom and apply it immediately to their jobs. For this reason, most Extension instructors teach only one or two courses on subjects in which they are recognized leaders, and often the best opportunity to teach for Extension will result from suggesting a new course for which you have advanced expertise.
Additionally, UCR Extension instructors are most often experienced teachers who have a passion for sharing their knowledge with others and find they benefit and learn from their classes almost as much as they contribute to the students' learning. Our instructors also share and work hard to uphold the organization's values:
- Learner-centered. UCR Extension measures itself by what students have learned.
- Commitment to Excellence. We are driven to provide the best instructors and the best education experience.
- Lifelong Access. We are available to people of all ages, at any time and at their convenience, with educational programs that meet the needs of our diverse population.
- Public Engagement. UCR Extension is a critical partner in the social, cultural and economic development of our local region as well as the global community.
If you share these values, are a working professional and expert in a field, and have a passion for teaching adult students, I invite you to fill out the interest form below. The information will be reviewed and sent to the appropriate department(s). If you'd prefer, please feel free to directly contact the department(s) for which you are interested in teaching.
Our courses are offered in a variety of formats - so our instructors can select the format that best suits their busy life. You can choose to teach during the day, at night or on weekends. Or, set your own schedule by teaching one of our online courses.
Thank you for your interest in teaching for our Extension program. We look forward to partnering with you to provide professional and personal development opportunities for learners of all ages.
