Presenters:
Rose Parker, Ph.D. in Christian Education and Counseling
Rose Parker spent 20 years in jail after killing her ex-boyfriend in self-defense when he burst into her Fontana home and held her family hostage for four days. In 2000, Gov. Gray Davis indicated that Rose Parker's case had all the characteristics of battered women syndrome — today a legally recognized defense. Rose was released from lifetime parole in 2006. Hear Rose share her experiences.
The Honorable Katrina West, Judge, Superior Court of California, County of San Bernardino
Judge West was appointed to the Superior Court of California for the County of San Bernardino by California Governor Gray Davis in December of 2001. She is the first African-American woman to sit as a Superior Court judge in San Bernardino County. She has presided over juvenile delinquency, juvenile dependency, family law and probate cases, criminal preliminary hearings, criminal trial proceedings and domestic violence compliance cases.
Additional presenters and break-out sessions addressing special topics are also planned.
